Tiger head shows the difference

The CT scan of a tiger skull for natural science revealed the power of our HeliExtend Dual trajectory. Read our story and find the difference.
It was one of those days that did not turn out as expected. When we stepped into the office, we saw a tiger skull on our desk! Time is money also with our natural history customers, so we used our fastest scan for this large part that could achieve the required clarity: HeliExtend Dual on our high-resolution computer tomography system FF35 CT. The microfocus tube was set to 200 kV and 190 µA and combined with the powerful and large flat panel detector 4343, we could show impressive results. But see for yourselves:
These are CT slices of the tiger skull in three different layers. The task was to visualize the bone trabeculae for natural science research. We performed two complete scans in different modes.
Do you see differences in the pairs? Neither do we.
The left column shows results from a Dual Helical QualityScan* which is a cone-beam stop-and-go method. Scan time 1 hour 49 minutes and 18 seconds.
The right column shows the corresponding results from a Dual Helical QuickScan*, a cone-beam scan by a continuous rotation of the specimen. Scan time 22 minutes and 10 seconds.
So, what is the difference? The efficiency! Highest quality of the scan result five times faster. That is the power of HeliExtend Dual which doesn’t make any other difference.
*QuickScan and QualityScan are included in our Vista entry software package together with FlexCenter and SpeedMode. Specially beneficial for the inspection of flat parts, ZoomScan and LayerScan are added in the VistaX and VistaX Pro packages. More information on our software solutions can be found here.
